Loss of firmness
What is it?
As we age, our skin produces less and less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which are responsible for keeping our skin plump and firm. That leads our skin to progressively lose its elasticity, and sag. This is a natural pocess, but it can happen more or less quickly depending on your lifestyle.
Origins & main causes
Some of your external factors may be damaging your collagen and elastin even more than time. For example, sun exposure, pollution or smoking are well-known aging accelerators. But stress or lack of sleep could also be very important factors!
What to do
It might be obvious, but the best way to slow down your loss of firmness is to watch out for any factor that may accelerate it. Make sure to protect your skin from UV rays by wearing your SPF correctly and from free radicals by adding antioxydants to your diet and your skincare routine! Look for products with vitamin C for example. Also, a lot of skincare products are formulated with collagen or hyaluronic acid, which can help compensate for the decrease of their natural production by your skin.
