Uneven skin tone

What is it?

Having an uneven skin tone, or hyperpigmentation can mean having dark spots or discolored areas. These appear when there are irregularities in the way your skin cells produce melanin, the pigment that colors our skin.

Origins & main causes

The more melanin you produce, the darker your skin gets. Several factors can impact your melanin production, one of the most well known being sun exposure. But hyperpigmentation can also result from a hormonal imbalance and therefore some medications, like hormonal birth control pills.

What to do

Wearing your SPF in even more important when you have dark spots and it help keeping your hyperpigmpentation under control. Skincare products formulated with niacinamide or vitamin C can also even out your skin tone.
