What is it?

Dryness can manifest in differents ways, but the most recognizable symptoms would be you skin feeling tight, or itchy, peeling, and having a rough, flaky texture. If you have dry skin, it may simply be your skin type. But dryness can also be induced by external factors causing dehydration or damaging your skin’s ability to retain moisture.

Origins & main causes

A multitude of factors can make your skin dryer than usual. When we age, our skin produces less oil, which increases the risk for dryness. Spending time in a dry-air environment because of your climate or even air conditioning, and extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, tend to dry out the skin too (including long and hot showers!). More generally anything that leads to overall dehydration is likely to make your skin dry.

What to do

There are two things you can focus on to prevent dryness: making sure to stay hydrated and protecting your skin barrier from damage as much as possible. There are a lot of skincare ingredients that can help you repair your skin, but those would be the ones to look for in priority: hyaluronic acid, squalane, ceramides, glycerin and most natural oils.
