Acne & Blemish
What is it?
Acne is the most frequent skin concern, it affects most of us at one point in our lives. You would recognize acne by getting pimples on your face. Even though it is often associated with oily skin, people with dry skin can also experience acne!
Origins & main causes
Usually your blemishes appear because your pores get clogged with sebum which causes an inflammation. There are a lot of factors that can lead to acne, but hormones are the main one. Your genetics, your diet and your use of skincare and makeup are also factors to consider. Stress is also known for causing breakouts.
What to do
If you have an acne-prone skin, which we pretty much all have at some point in our lives, one thing you can do to prevent breakouts is improve your diet. Start by removing foods that can cause inflammation, like sugar and carbs. Skincare-wise, try to keep your face as clean as possible (especially if you’re sweating), but be gentle and don’t over exfoliate. Look for “non-comedogenic“ or “oil-free“ skincare and makeup products. Well-known ingredients to treat acne include salicilyc acid, alpha-hydroxy acid, or niacinamide. Oh, and never squeeze your pimples. For real.
